Walkthrough Part 0: Spiral Mountain – Tutorial Area

With the poker game over and Bottles… err… dead, Banjo and Kazooie begin their mission to stop Gruntilda and her powerful suck/blow machine, B.O.B. Banjo-Tooie begins in a familiar place, Spiral Mountain. You can even spot the aftermath and a reminder of Banjo-Kazooie’s ending here.

Once again, you can make your way around the mountain area, stopping at the molehills to learn the basics of the game.

Explore Spiral Mountain
Spiral Mountain is where you start your adventure — and it leads directly to the game’s main hub, the Isle O’ Hags. While most collectibles as well as the entrances to Banjo-Tooie’s world are found in the Isle overworld, there are some things to collect and unlock on Spiral Mountain, too! But most of the areas here are set up to let you try out the different moves you’ve unlocked — and some things can’t be completed until later in the game.

You can stop at Bottles’ mole hills to learn about movements and camera controls. Explore the area to get down the basics and learn about how to fire eggs, attacks, and the Wonder-Wing invulnerability. You can also stock up on ammo and feathers here.

Get the Spiral Mountain Cheato Page
In Spiral Mountain you can find your first Cheato Page located on a ledge opposite the Digger Tunnel. Use the Shockspring Pad to leap into the cave and collect the prize.

Spiral Mountain Cheato Page

One you have five, find the floating book, Cheato and talk to him. Cheato can be found in the collapsed tunnel area inside the large Grunty head at the top of Spiral Mountain. Ascend the spiraling walkway and then use the Flight Pad to fly over to the head’s mouth. Since you don’t have enough pages yet, there’s no reason to visit Cheato yet, however.

Instead, look for the large cave entrance to continue with your quest — most other areas in this hub require you to have learned new moves. For info on those, refer to the Isle O’ Hags section of our walkthrough.

New Move: Amaze-O-Gaze Glasses

You can get this pair of nifty zooming glasses from Bottle’s son inside their house. These glasses will always be on Banjo’s eyes so just switch to first-person mode and zoom in and out whenever you need to.

Inside the Digger Tunnel

Boss Battle: Klungo
Head into the Digger’s Tunnel and talk to Klungo. After some banter, Gruntilda’s trusty servant will challenge you to battle. He drinks a potion to grow larger and will try to squash you. Simply avoid his attacks by running and rolling out of the way, then wait as he protects himself with a shield and dodge the flasks he throws at you. As soon as his shield disappears, get in close and attack him by rolling or using one of Kazooie’s beak attacks.

Damage Klungo three times and this brief battle is over. It’s obviously not the last time you’ll meet Klungo.

Klungo – Minion With a Mission

Head to the exit with the digger tracks to get to the next area. You are laving Spiral Mountain and entering the Isle O’ Hags’ Jinjo Village.

Spiral Mountain Spoilers

Be warned, the following are unlocks and secrets you won’t be able to access until later in the game. Read on only if you’re returning to Spiral Mountain with several moves unlocked.

Spiral Mountain Advanced Move Unlock

In addition to the Amaze-O-Gaze move you can get in Bottle’s House, there’s one additional move to unlock here, but it requires the Bill Drill.

Fast Swim

Near Banjo’s house in Spiral Mountain is a boulder. Once you’ve got the move unlocked, Bill Drill this boulder and uncover a soon-to-be-dried out goldfish.

Bring the fish to the moat surrounding the Spiral Mountain and he’ll teach you to swim faster. Simply press A and B at the same time for the Fast Swim move.

The Hidden Game Paks and the Two Special Eggs

There are three bouncing Nintendo 64 cartridges hidden around the Isle of Hags — two in Spiral Mountain and one near the Jinjo Village. Here’s how to get the two found around Spiral Mountain.

Spiral Mountain Game Pak 1

In Spiral Mountain when you have the Grenade Eggs abilities mastered, fix your sights on the screen covering the cave above the tree stumps. Blast it apart with a Grenade Egg. Head up Spiral Mountain to launch yourself from the Flight Pad there and touch down inside the cave to find the Game Pak hopping around.

Catch the happy Banjo-Kazooie cartridge and smash it to find a Pink Special Egg inside.

Heggy will hatch this egg for you, provided you ask nicely. You will receive a new move, Breegull Bash, in return.

Spiral Mountain Game Pak 2: Behind the Waterfall

This Game Pak is also in Spiral Mountain although is a little less obvious. Use the Fly Pad on the top of Spiral Mountain and fly over the waterfall and enter the cave from which the water flows.

This leads to an area appropriately titled “Behind the Waterfall”.

Follow the ledge to the smaller waterfall in the rear of the cave and Grip Grab the ledge to climb up behind this second waterfall.

There you will follow a tunnel that leads around to the Game Pak within the cage. Smash the cartridge to reveal its secret.

It’s a Blue Special Egg. Return to Heggy’s Hen House to have her hatch this one for you as well.

Game Pak #2

For the third Game Pak, see the Isle O’ Hags portion of your walkthrough.

Once you’ve done all the above, the area is complete.
